Live Reality; The True Story of a Man Ruined
Before I begin this sordid tale of excess, I may begin with the fact that although it has been deemed as a tale worth telling, I leave my name from it’s title due to this simple fact: I am no titular character, no Robinson Crusoe nor do I even fit the mould set by the archetypal ‘Potter.’ This isn’t a story about one man, but more a state of consciousness belied by all those who heed the call, the dragons breath beckons.
The place is Leeds, there was a bitter chill about the place and the heavens were heaving with fresh snow. I remember arriving at the venue with a heady aplomb, with which I was ready to bring to the afternoons musical performance. Even though the enthusiasm ensued, there was still a rather heady feeling lofting around my brain, maybe it was tiredness or fate, I’m not sure. As the show was running late I took to more than the advised amount of alcoholic beverages, intoxication began to rear its pleasant head, a vice of mine that I welcome as an old friend. This initial haze pricked my appetite somewhat as I began to intake more precious fluid, winding down my throat, warming my stomach despite the ensuing blizzard outside.
Alas, the time came that we should take the stage, although not before visiting one Liam Fox outside to sample some of the treats from his extensive apothecary. This left my mind somewhat heavy, toppling any mental process within the confides of any normal man.
Getting gear set up was a chore, one I was too intoxicated to undertake alone, so with the aid of James Lumby I began to set up. I wondered as I began to strum why there wasn’t any sound emitting from the amp, only to find that in my haze had forgotten to plug it in, this would be the toppling point at it’s weary apex indeed. And so the set began.
We were playing for what felt like our scheduled 25 minutes, but my head was all over the place, the fingers were easing across the fret board without thought or recognition of the goings on around me, my mind wandering from subject to subject, delving deeper and deeper into the palimpsest that is my memory. Until I realised what felt like a lifetime was only the first song, time was moving at an exponentially slow rate, I slogged on in disbelief. Everything was moving along in a haze of slow motion as we delved through hits such as “The White Druid” and “The Thrash One” each dizzying minute feeling longer than the next. Despite this, it was rather enjoyable, what should have been disaster, was harmonious, as it quite often is for us.
And that is that.
As the minutes felt like days,
a toil erased,
a whore to the haze

TDON Xmas Party 2011 (Lavotchkin/Daggers/Worms Feed/Grader/Brotherhood of the Lake/No Reality/End Reign/Grazes/Grace)
The 70’s metal style riffs of No Reality were certainly not what we expected and then what came from vocalist Liam blew our heads off. Their mix of intricate riffs, hardcore grooves and piercing vocals was a highlight of our night.
